JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Kindergarten Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid teaching certificate, Highly Qualified for subjects taught
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual,
emotional, social, and psychological growth and maturation as well as to create a classroom environment conducive to learning through appropriate play.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor. Also has an adequate outline of several days work for a substitute teacher in case of absence from the classroom.
Enforces the rules and regulations as set forth in the student handbook.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or students groups involved.
Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of early childhood education, instructional goals, objectives and Board Policies.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Evaluates student progress with appropriate assessments.
Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
Cooperates with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
Accepts a share of responsibility for other activities as assigned.
Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
Selects and requisitions books and instructional materials and maintains required inventory of equipment and technology.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be according to experience and education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois and the Board of Education policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
